If Johnny Manziel’s NFL career fails, he now has another fallback, along with playing baseball for the Padres. According to USA Today‘s For the Win, Manziel was drafted by the the Harlem Globetrotters—the choice will be announced later today. They must have liked these dunk videos. Here are the details, via For the Win:
The Harlem Globetrotters have drafted showman Johnny Manziel. That makes “Johnny Football” the three-way draft choice of the NFL’s Cleveland Browns, baseball San Diego Padres and now basketball’s ultimate team of showmen with their red, white and blue ball. The pick by the Globetrotters is ceremonial. Don’t look for Manziel to be touring the nation’s arenas this fall tossing fake water buckets (full of confetti) into the stands. The pick will be announced Tuesday by the Globetrotters as part of their eighth annual draft of “world class” athletes – and obviously attention grabbers. “Johnny Manziel is a fantastic athlete that knows how to be entertaining. ‘Johnny Basketball’ has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?’’ “Sweet Lou” Dunbar, Globetrotters’ director of player personnel, says in a press release. … “We like to think outside the box with our draft, so we look at all different kinds of athletes that could have the qualities of a Harlem Globetrotter,” says Dunbar.
