Jaguars Reportedly Not Planning on Trading Jones-Drew
It’s not a good time to be a Jaguars fan. Not only are they one of, it not the most irrelevant team in the League. But now it appears that the Maurice Jones-Drew holdout is going to drag into the regular season as the Jaguars continue to hold their stance. Last year Jacksonville won just five games with Jones-Drew. Without him, things could get ugly: From the Florida Times-Union:
When Smith was asked by the Times-Union before the team’s annual Kickoff Luncheon if there was any chance of a trade if he doesn’t show up for the regular season, he said, “Maurice is a Jaguar.” Smith was then asked, “So you are not considering trading him?” He replied, “No.” And you won’t consider trading him? “He’s a Jaguar,” Smith said. He was then asked what if Jones-Drew is not in camp after 10 weeks, and responded, “Maurice is a Jaguar.” When owner Shad Khan was asked about trading Jones-Drew, he said, “I have no idea. Enough has been said about that already.” He added, “You ought to ask Gene on that. Certainly, I wouldn’t be engaged anyway.” Khan was then asked about his previous comments that the holdout wasn’t of great concern to him and that it was time for Jones-Drew to get on the train, he said, “I want to be honest and truthful” When he was asked if he has any regrets about the comments, he said, “I have absolutely no regrets.” So the stalemate continues.
